Dear Members,
Welcome Back to the Oxford University European Affairs
Society. Having been established in Hilary 1991, the EAS is turning
fifteen this term and continuing to be one of the most vibrant student
societies in Oxford. After a great end of term with the highly
successful Monaco Ball in Michaelmas, Hilary with the EAS kicks off
with our termly Coqtails d’Or held at the Grand Café – a perfect
opportunity to meet committee and other members but also celebrate our
birthday.
The
long weekend away in Krakow is undeniably the highlight of this term.
We will see all the sights, stay in a hotel in the enchanting Jewish
old-town of Kazimierz, visit a place of true European tragedy and,
despite this, have a lot of fun. In good tradition, we are also hosting
a variety of other social events like a wine-tasting, speed-dating,
film-night and après-ski evening.
On
the speaker side of our events, we start off with a fun student debate
which does not mean we will not be serious this term: The first main
speaker will be Joschka Fischer, until recently German foreign-minister
and one of the main figures in European politics. He will be followed
by a unique variety of a historian of European-British history,
Professor Robbins, a head-of-state, President Eddie Fenech Adami of
Malta, a journalist, WSJE Editor Raju Narisetti, a top European
economist, Lucas Papademos, and an actress torn between Europe and
Holywood, Franka Potente.
Please
do not hesitate to get in touch should you have any questions about our
events or how to get involved and I look forward very much to seeing
you at our events.
With best wishes,
Nora Gietz
President
